Aw, Crap.

I was thinking about the things I want to do in 2009 and I realized not only is it three whole months until I get to move, but three months is a quarter of a year. Shit. I had just managed to convince myself that’s it not really that long (only seven pay periods, for example! only two more schedules posted at work! only three more…well, you get the idea) and just now, just when I opened this and started to post, I realized it really is as long as I thought it was.

Oh, well. On to the things I want to accomplish! I want to save enough to buy a horse after I pay off my credit card. I should also pay off the several grand I owe RIT so I can do my co-op and, like, graduate, but…uhh…we’ll see. I know, I know, it’s really pathetic that that’s all I have left but I’m pretty pathetic, so there you go. I also want to finally jump a whole freaking course without having to stop in the middle to get organized. For non-horse things, I want to find a job I don’t hate (which is maybe why I don’t care if I graduate or not, ever, and have no real ambition to find a co-op job right now). I also want to knit a blanket, which seems a bit too ambitious for me, especially since I just spent the last half hour ripping out 20% of a sweater. I have decided that lace, even the most simple lace ever, is not worth it.

No More Mac OS

I finally did it. I reformatted my hard drive and told Mac to suck it. Well, kind of. I mean, I am running an iMac, right? But it is now Windows only, so yay! I did have to get Mike to help me find the damn drivers, though. And when I let him remotely access my computer, it dubbed him “Expert” and me “Novice” and that was a little irritating.

Speaking of irritating, work keeps trying to call me in for evening shift. I mentioned to my supervisor that I can’t work evenings right now due to transportation issues. I’m contingent part time, so I can do that. But they keep calling me anyway. I’ve stopped answering the phone. That’s inconsiderate, I know, but come on. I worked a night shift the other night!

Anyway, I still have pretty much nothing interesting enough for blog writing. Hmm. I’m thinking if I dig my camera out, I might do a photo update once a week. Or I could be lazy and use the little point and shoot.

I’ve set April 1st as my target for moving back to Rochester. That should be when we’ll get the apartment. When I find out more concretely, I’m sure I’m going to be anxiously counting down the days.

I miss the horses a lot, especially my Pippy pony. I’m going to ride like crap when I get back. I’ve never had this much time off before!

On Doing Things for Yourself

I was watching this show about beauty pageant girls the other night. It gave a sort of update on two girls that won an insane amount of money for being pretty when they were 5. At the time of this show, they were both 17. One was in fancy private school, having quit pageants at the age of 7. The other was still doing them at 17. There was something almost tragic about the way she eagerly anticipated the results of the current one, telling the camera she really had a shot at winning this one and the $10,000, only to..well, to not win.

Anyway, it made me think about why I appreciate horse shows so much. If I’d been doing them when I was 7, I think I would hate them. But since it’s something I started after I moved out, mostly paid for myself, and never had any kind of expectations of being the best, I really enjoy it. It’s okay to suck as long as you like what you’re doing. And if you’re not the prettiest girl in the room (which I never am unless it is a room full of dudes), who the hell cares?

Now I’m away from the horses for a couple of months and it really sucks. I miss everything about the barn. Well, almost everything. I should mention that if I have to be stuck in Maryland for a season, I’m kind of glad it’s for winter. But that’s another thing I’m going to do for myself – I am going to get the hell back out of here and move out for real. And then I’m going to buy a pony. Haha!
